Implementation Guideline on Common QR Code for Retail Payments in Hong Kong

The Working Group on Common QR Code (Quick Response Code) Standard for Retail Payments in Hong Kong (the WG) was established in October 2017 with a view to develop a common QR code standard (the "HKQR") to provide consistent user experience for both merchants and consumers. The WG had finalised the Common QR Code Specification for Retail Payments in Hong Kong – Merchant–Presented Mode ("Specification") in December 2017 to facilitate the consolidation of multiple merchant-presented QR codes into a single code. The WG has finalised the implementation guideline on common QR code for retail payments in Hong Kong which sets out the high level principles and expected operational and technical support from Payment Service Providers (PSP). For parties intended to adopt the HKQR, should adhere to the guidelines in implementing the common QR code standard in Hong Kong.

For enquiries on the Specification, please email to the HKMA at [email protected].
