Common QR Code Specification for Retail Payments in Hong Kong (Merchant-Presented mode)

Common QR Code Specification for Retail Payments in Hong Kong (Merchant-Presented mode)

The HKMA has set up a Working Group on Common QR Code (Quick Response Code) Standard for Retail Payments in Hong Kong (the WG) in October 2017.  The WG comprises members from payment network operators, banks, stored-value facility (SVF) licensees and merchant acquirers.  The WG aims to develop a common QR code standard which would enable merchants, especially small and medium enterprises, to use a single QR code to accept payments from different schemes, instead of displaying multiple QR codes to their customers.  This will provide greater convenience to customers and merchants, and facilitate the adoption of QR code payment in Hong Kong.  The WG has finalised the "Common QR Code Specification for Retail Payments in Hong Kong - Merchant-Presented Mode" in December 2017.
